The team has struggled with quality and depth, while injuries haven’t been kind either. One of the glaring issues has been witnessed in midfield, with the team clearly struggling without old guards such as Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Strengthening the midfield, therefore, could be a priority in the coming summer, especially if Real Madrid do end up selling Eduardo Camavinga for €70 million at the end of the season.
Real Madrid tracking three midfielders
According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are currently tracking three midfielders in their quest to reinforce the ranks in the middle of the park.
The three players in question are Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar and PSG’s star midfielder Vitinha.

Contrary to what was reported earlier, Rodri doesn’t appear to be part of Real Madrid’s transfer plans, even though the team is keen on signing a top-quality defensive midfielder.
It seems Los Blancos want to sign a younger alternative, which makes sense, as the club are so big on Smit, regarded as one of the Netherlands’ newest up-and-coming talents.
Real Madrid have been linked with moves for Wharton, Smit and Vitinha since the beginning of the season.
While Wharton is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfielders, Vitinha is one of the top midfielders in the world right now, having flourished under Luis Enrique.
Real Madrid are eager to sign at least one of these midfielders as they look to regain the calm and composure that used to be provided by Kroos.
