Former Spartans defenseman Nick Andrews made his AHL debut in the Grand Rapids Griffins' 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Monsters at Rocket Arena in Cleveland on Saturday.

Andrews, a Canton native who had 21 points in 53 games with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye this year, was scoreless against the Monsters.
Jackson's Carter Mazur, Gabriel Seger and Tyler Angle scored goals and goalie Michal Postava made 20 saves to improve to 12-4-0.
The Griffins are 20-0 when leading after the first period and 32-1 when scoring the first goal.
Western Michigan 2, Colorado College 1 (OT)
Western Michigan's Liam Valente scored the game-winning goal in overtime for a 2-1 victory over Colorado College in the NCHC Frozen Four quarterfinals at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo on Saturday.
Northville's Owen Michaels had the other goal and goalie Hampton Slukynsky made 33 saves for the Broncos (26-9-1).
The Broncos will play in next Saturday's NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinal against Denver either at home or on the road.
USA Hockey hits girls' milestone
USA Hockey welcomed its record-setting 100,000th female hockey player during the 2025-26 season.
Joanna Gilligan, a 13-year-old from Millcreek, Utah, was officially the 100,000th female registrant.
Since women’s hockey was first played in the Olympic Winter Games in 1998, the number of girls has grown by 257% from 28,000 players to more than 100,000.
“It’s a great day for hockey in our country,” said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey.
“So many people have worked tirelessly in building opportunities for girls and women’s players in this country, and it seems appropriate we celebrate reaching 100,000 for the first time ever during Hockey Week Across America.”
Red Wings fall into wildcard position
The Detroit Red Wings dropped out of the top three positions in the Atlantic Division and into the second wildcard position.
Montreal moved ahead of Detroit in the standings with a 4-3 win over the L.A. Kings at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Jura Slafkovsky had two goals and an assist and Nick Suzuki had a goal and two assists for the Canadiens.
Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Montreal and Boston all won Saturday.
The Lightning and Sabres are tied for the lead the Atlantic Division with 82 points. The Canadiens have 78 points, one point ahead of the Red Wings at 77 points in 63 games.
