The Huskies are 2-0 down in Norfolk, Virginia.

The UConn Huskies won their second game in as many days with a 14-3 mercy-rule decision over Old Dominion to capture the win in their three-game weekend series in Norfolk, Virginia.

Jackson Marshall and Nater Wachter, who were teammates at Southern New Hampshire last year, combined for three home runs for the Huskies. The duo is leading the team in home runs, as the only UConn batters with multiple thus far.

In the top of the second inning, Marshall launched a towering fly ball over Justin Verlander’s retired number on the left field wall for his fourth long ball of the season and second in three games.

Three innings later, Wachter drove one of his own to dead center off the batter’s eye for a three-run shot, his third of the year.

Not to be outdone, Marshall put an exclamation point on his day by sending another bomb to left in the eighth inning, this time over an image of former major leaguer Tim Hummel, for his first multi-home run showing as a Husky. He finished 3-for-5.

The transfer sluggers propelled UConn to an eight-inning, mercy-rule win over Old Dominion, as the Huskies improved to 7-7 on the season.

Second baseman Maverick Stallings did all he could to keep it close for the Monarchs. He sent a triple over Wachter’s head in center field and off the wall to drive in the first run of the game before sending a solo-shot to left to tie it at three.

That would end the scoring on the day for the Monarchs, as the two run-scoring extra base hits from Stallings, along with a fielder’s choice RBI from first baseman Zach Leite, were the only significant blemishes on the day for UConn starter Caden Suchy.

Suchy finished the game with a final line of three earned runs across four innings with six hits, two walks and three punchouts. Though not up to snuff with Suchy’s first three starts of the season, the sophomore did enough to keep the Huskies in the game.

By the time Suchy departed, Rob Rispoli had already started to reclaim his status as an elite leadoff hitter. After batting just .194 coming into the contest, the shortstop posted his first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of the season.

The redshirt-sophomore’s RBI-single in the third was just his second RBI of the year and first RBI hit of the season, as his first RBI came off of a fielder’s choice all the way back in the third game of the season against Air Force.

Rispoli got it done again an inning later, sending a double to the corner in left to push across another.

Gabriel Tirado also chipped in a big day for the Huskies, posting a three-hit performance with a double and driving in four runs, nearly doubling his total on the season coming into the day at five.

Earlier in the contest, Chase Taylor also picked up an RBI for the second straight game on a run-scoring double that tied the game for the first time since the start of the game in the third inning.

Elsewhere, Menzel and Righi also pushed across a run each to add insurance and help the Huskies push it into mercy rule territory.

Greg Shaw III continued his elite season of relief work with another four innings of shutout baseball to close out the game and secure a win. The senior now sports a sub-one ERA.

After securing the series victory on Saturday, the Huskies will take the field against the Monarchs one last time on Sunday with a chance to sweep a series for the first time this season. First pitch is scheduled for noon. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
