Klint Kubiak keeps familiar face on his Raiders staff

The same day the Raiders were reportedly keeping defensive line coach Rob Leonard with a promotion to DC, it was revealed Joe Woods would be sticking around as well.

Woods is not just familiar to Leonard, but Kubiak as well. While Woods spent last season with the Raiders as DB coach and defensive pass game coordinator, the season before, he was the DC in New Orleans while Kubiak was the OC. With Leonard getting the DC job, it just made sense to keep Woods as well.

Woods has 21 years of NFL coaching experience under his belt. Among his posts was a two-year stint as DB coach in Denver in 2015-16 when Klint's father Gary Kubiak was head coach. The Broncos won the Super Bowl in his first season there.

Woods becomes the first position coach in Kubiak's staff, which has yet to name an offensive coordinator. But getting two coaches locked in within a week of taking the job is moving at a good pace. They will need to keep that pace going with the scouting combine just nine days away.
